Epic Light at Great Falls National Park

by josephrossbachphoto

The other day I conducted a private workshop for a client in Virginia. We met well before sunrise in the parking lot of Great Falls National Park in Virginia. I could see all the way from the parking lot a thick layer of mist and fog on the Potomac River and I immediately got very excited about the morning shoot.  We headed down and across the jagged rocks in the low light of dawn making our way to the rivers edge. The water levels were still pretty high from the snow melt and spring rains of recent. This limited our choices of shooting locations severely. All hope was not lost as I found a spot out on the river that was perfect for the first rays of morning light to scrape the cascades and illuminate the mist and fog in the background.

Future outings  include White Oak Canyons One Day Waterfalls Workshop on May 17, Shenandoah Fawns and Vistas Weekend Workshop from June 18 -20 and my Acadia National Park Workshop from June 6 – 10.
